Reengineering the AVX for 2024 Titleist worked on maintaining the features players bought for in the first place, distance and feel, but increased the spin that could be generated on short scoring shots. The core was replaced with the same high gradient one used in their Pro V1 and Pro V1x which are the most played balls on the professional tours.

“When we talk about the gradient of the core, we’re talking about stiffness as it radiates from the center of the core to the outermost layers of that core,” said Mike Madson, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball R&D. “With AVX’s core reformulated for a higher gradient, we’re able to give golfers more of that low spin and long distance with their long irons and hybrids, which is hugely important to the AVX player.”

The first question most players ask is what the difference between the three premium balls Titleist makes, the Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX and the answer is quite a bit.

First of all is the basic construction: AVX 3-layer, Pro V1 and Pro V1x 4-layers. Secondly the AVX is softer feel than either of the other two and has relatively a much flatter trajectory. As always though, comparative testing is the best answer to find the one that fits your game.
